DEAR MICHAEL

Dedicado a la memoria de Michael Jackson (1958-2009).
Dear Michael,

I cannot thank you enough for what you gave me. ‘Thank you’ is not a right thing to say from someone who idolizes you, someone whose hero you happen to be. I was only five when I first heard you, but even then I knew that my life had suddenly changed for good. I always dreamed of seeing you onstage. Little did I actually dream that such a dream would come true. September 10th, 2001. We celebrated your life, your work, even your family. It was the happiest night of my life. I always thought the world didn’t really acknowledge what you did for them, and it’s very sad that they’re only doing it now. I felt for you when the world judged you. In a way, I was always by your side even though I may have not always shown it. I play the drums. The first time I ever did it in public was to “Off The Wall”. The first time I ever danced in public was to “Thriller”. Because you certainly did thrill me, Michael. You still do. I hope, wherever you are, that you finally got the happiness you deserved and that the world unfairly took from you. My words cannot express enough on how you made me who I am today. Up there with Frank, Vinicius, Tom and Elvis, it was you all along. And for that, I just can’t stop loving you and I’ll never get enough. Because every time you started something, you unknowingly started me too. I don’t think I know much about healing the world, but I do know one thing: you healed my heart. So, even though the following words are not enough in my case, I must say it: Thank you, Michael. I miss you, but on top of all, I love you.
